Work on the 2027 to 2031 Financial Plan starts now. The resident priorities survey is open until September 30 and takes about ten minutes.
The City has opened its resident priorities survey, the first step in building the 2027 to 2031 Financial Plan. The survey closes September 30, 2026.
Why the City asks in August
Departments write their budget requests in the fall. Asking residents first means those requests are shaped by what people actually want funded, rather than the other way around. Answers collected now go to Council with the draft plan in the winter.
What the survey covers
- Service levels you would protect, and service levels you would trade
- Road, water, and sewer renewal versus new amenities
- Parks, recreation, and trail priorities
- Fire protection and emergency preparedness
- How much of a tax increase, if any, you would accept and for what
The rest of the schedule
- Fall 2026: departments submit operating and capital requests
- Winter 2026 to 2027: special budget meetings, open to the public
- Early spring 2027: Budget Open House, in person and on Zoom, and the written feedback window
- Before May 15, 2027: Council gives the Financial Plan Bylaw its readings and adopts it
