Pet Licences
A licence is the best way to get your pet home if they get lost. It's also required for all dogs and cats over 12 months.

Who needs a licence
If you live in Silvermere and own a cat or dog older than 12 months, it needs a licence each year, renewed for the calendar year, January 1 to December 31.
Licensing is set out in Bylaw 271, Animal Control and Licencing. The licence ties your pet to your contact information so that if they get out, animal services or a neighbour can quickly get them home.
How to apply
Apply through City Hall. The Pet Licence Application is available below as a fillable PDF. For current fees, accepted payment methods, and any questions about your situation, call City Hall at 250-555-0100.
Tip
Spayed/neutered pets typically pay less
Why this matters
The City uses licence revenue to help fund animal-control services through its contract with West Highlands Animal Services. An unlicensed pet that gets loose has no quick way to be identified. A licensed one goes home.
If your pet goes missing
Call the West Highlands Animal Services at 250-555-0142 as your first step. If your pet is licensed, animal services can match the tag number to your contact info and call you directly. That’s the entire reason the system exists. If your pet is also microchipped, that’s a second layer of insurance against the tag falling off. Both together is the gold standard.
Tip
Cats count too
