Request an Inspection
Inspections at key construction stages are how the City confirms your work meets the BC Building Code. Book ahead, don't surprise the inspector.
Book ahead
Give Development Services 24 to 48 hours whenever possible.
Stage inspections
Foundation, framing, rough-ins, insulation, and final each matter.
Do not cover work
Wait for signoff before closing walls or moving to the next stage.
How to schedule
Inspections are arranged through Development Services. Contact 250-555-0100 or email devserv@silvermere.example with:
- Your building permit number
- The type of inspection you need
- Property address
- Your preferred date and approximate time window
- Best contact number on the day
Aim for 24 to 48 hours of lead time. Book earlier in busy seasons (spring and summer construction).
Heads up
Don't cover work that needs inspecting
Common inspection stages
The exact list depends on the project type. For most residential builds, expect:
- Footings and foundation, before concrete is poured.
- Framing, after rough framing is complete but before drywall.
- Plumbing rough-in, before walls are closed.
- Electrical rough-in, handled by Technical Safety BC, not the City. Schedule separately through TSBC.
- Insulation and vapour barrier, before drywall.
- Final, when work is complete and ready for occupancy.
Be ready when the inspector arrives
Make the work accessible. Have the permit and approved plans on site. If the inspector can't access the work or finds it incomplete, you may need to rebook (and possibly pay a re-inspection fee depending on the circumstances).
After the inspection
The inspector either approves the stage or notes deficiencies that need correcting before re-inspection. Approval is your green light to move on to the next phase, cover the work, pour the concrete, hang the drywall. Final approval is required before the project is officially complete, and for applicable projects before anyone moves in.
