Lakeline Bike Network
A multi-use path connecting Silvermere's neighbourhoods to downtown, parks, and Highwater College. Bike, walk, or roll.
What the Lakeline is
The Lakeline Bike Network is Silvermere's multi-use path system. It's designed to connect the city's neighbourhoods to downtown, to major parks, and out to Highwater College, without requiring riders to share space with motor traffic for most of the route.
Routes
The network combines several connected route types:
- Multi-use paths and grade-separated connections including the 20th Street to Connor Road Connection, Cedar Flats Bridge to College Trail, Orchard Avenue (multi-use), and Lakeshore Avenue grade-separated 17th to 13th
- Bike lanes on Lakeshore Avenue (24th to 18th), 17th Avenue behind Safeway, Connors Road, and 6th Avenue (24th to 20th)
- Shared lanes on 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue
Together these routes connect the city north-to-south and east-to-west, with a connection out to Highwater College.
Sharing the path
The Lakeline works because everyone gives a little. The short version: cyclists yield to walkers, everyone keeps right, and a quick bell or a friendly “passing on your left” before you go around someone is the difference between a startle and a smile.
- Cyclists yield to walkers and runners
- Everyone keeps right, passes on the left
- Bell or voice before passing pedestrians, especially from behind
- Dogs on leash, scoop and pack out
- Extra room for kids and less-confident riders
Winter use
Civic Works clears the paved Lakeline sections through the winter as part of regular snow operations, with priority routes plowed first after a storm and residential connections following on the same cycle as the streets they parallel. Expect packed snow or ice on some days, especially in the first 24 hours after a big snowfall. Gravel sections may close temporarily in extreme conditions. See Snow & Winter Operations for the full priority order.
